Christ as Lord is both positional and functional. Not only was he exalted as Lord in glory, but he functions as the final authority. So the confession “Jesus is Lord” means that a person must not only acknowledge his position, but respect his function by submitting to his commands. So for him to be our Lord and Savior, it must be in this order.
Baptism is not our Savior. Only God and Jesus Christ are called Savior. Neither is grace, or faith, or repentance called our Savior, but all these are necessary for salvation. The Lord uses these to save us. It is proper to affirm that “baptism saves us” 1Pt 3.21, because all these are necessary for salvation. But they are not the Savior.
