The best and broadest appeal that one can make to others is the #Bible and the Bible alone. All others include human opinions and conclusions that are open to discussion. Religion is divisive; the Bible unifies. Its presence rises above man’s smallness to sweep everyone into the immensity of divine #love and purpose.
We must reason with others as Paul did: “from the Scriptures” Acts 17.2-3. With an open Bible. Explaining and proving. This implies knowledge of God’s word. Jesus’ followers are nothing if not good students of the Bible.
Teaching Scripture is a blessed activity. It was in Jehoshaphat’s day, and still is in ours. “In the third year of his reign he sent his officials Ben Hail, Obadiah, Zechariah, Nethanel, and Micaiah to teach in the cities of Judah” 2 Chr 17.7 NET.
My goal is to be everything the Lord says he wants me to be, in Scripture, and nothing he would not have me be. This then would be the sum of faithfulness.
“Many people want to say what is worthy of God and what is not worthy of God; however, the only true way to find out what is worthy of God is to see what God has or has not done in the Bible. Whatever God has done is worthy of him.” —Jim Sheerer, NT Commentary, 983.
If we love the truth, we will be intense and focused students of the Bible, for God’s word is truth, Jn 17.17.
